Arthur lightly touched William's face, the baby closest to him, caressing his cheek with slow and precise movements before cuddling close to the child, unable to help himself as he hugged the infant close. William didn't stir, so Arthur just assumed that he didn't mind being cuddled. Which was good thing, in Arthur's opinion. He just wanted to cuddle them both constantly. They were so cute.

Arthur's gaze settled on Alfred again after a short while, just smiling a little across at him.

Alfred just lightly stroked Eleanore's hair, knowing that she would stir from her sleep if he tried to cuddle up with her.

He couldn't help but smile back over at Arthur, absolutely in love.

It really felt like they were were these children's parents and...he just wanted to protect them forever. Maybe it was some kind of father's instinct...he had no idea. Maybe because they were of his own blood.

"Love you," He whispered.

Paternal instinct was definitely something that Arthur was experiencing.

"I love you, too," Arthur whispered back, settling his head on the pillow before looking back down to William. But Arthur's eyes closed after a short while, still tired from the night before. He was asleep within minutes.

Alfred watched as Arthur fell asleep within minutes and he couldn't help but relax slightly. Soon he leant over to stroke Arthur's hair lightly.

He wasn't nearly as tired but he was satisfied enough just to lay there in bed with the children and Arthur and well...just relax.

Arthur napped for a good forty minutes before he woke up again, and that was only because William was making funny noises. He sounded like he was going to cry, but wasn't. He looked down to check if he was awake or not and saw William looking miserable. It was probably noon by that point.

He looked across at Alfred sleepily, smiling quickly at the other before rubbing his eyes.

"How long was I asleep for?"

William's little grunts got a bit louder but soon quietened as Arthur stroked his belly, comfortingly.

"He's probably hungry."

Alfred rubbed his eyes and he looked over at his lover. He was dozing off somewhat but not nearly to the point of sleep. He just smiled over at Arthur, leaning over to kiss his lips gently.

"Mmm, probably only a few hours," He murmured softly but he soon looked down at William.

"Yeah...what do babies eat?"

He didn't remember all that much and he never really had to take care of a child. There were always nannies for that. He hoped that they had food for William though.

Arthur gave his lover a look.

"Milk, Alfred. They don't have teeth yet." He lifted William from the mattress to lie on Arthur's chest to try and comfort him as he began to make louder noises again. Arthur kissed William's temple, resulting in the baby gurgling.

"He'll have to wait until Madeline comes back. We don't have a cow and, um, we don't have anything we can physically give him, either." He rubbed William's back soothingly.

Alfred flushed in embarrassment but he laughed a bit, scratching the back of his head.

"Well hopefully she won't be gone for too long."

He sighed softly, gently stroking through Eleanore's hair, who still seemed to be peacefully asleep.

What lovely children.

Arthur just began to coo at William, who seemed relatively amused for the time being. He had to lie very still so that the child wouldn't slide off of him, but William was unbearably cute so Arthur didn't mind too much.

"Yes, hopefully."

He nuzzled the baby, who just squeaked in delight from having attention paid to him.

Alfred just chuckled a bit, smiling somewhat.

"Some part of me wished that these were our children...but we're lucky enough to have them like this. To have Madeline be so understanding and well...it's nice," He whispered softly, cradling the for once quiet Eleanore.

She really seemed at peace when she was asleep.

He knew that she was going to be absolutely beautiful.

Arthur stopped cooing and talking to William in favour of looking over at Alfred in surprise. He wasn't sure why he felt choked up about it it. He slowly began to smile again, eyes shining a little.

"I wish they were ours, too... but this is something we can never have," he murmured, looking back at William, who was staring at him curiously. "However, we should be extremely grateful for your sister's patience and love."

Alfred nodded quietly.

"Exactly...and they're going to have amazing lives ahead of them. At least we have the privilege of seeing them grow up at the very least..." He whispered softly.

He knew that he was benefitting more from this than Arthur.

At least he was related somehow to the children but Arthur had no such relation. Not until he married him at the very least.

"I'm really glad Madeline is so understanding."

"Mm," Arthur hummed and wrapped his arms around William, who he cradled to his chest. "We'll look out for them. They have to learn to be rulers, after all."

He sighed heavily, closing his eyes with a furrowed brow.

The baby in his arms started to whimper again, clearly getting hungrier and hungrier. Arthur got out of bed and cuddled William close, rocking him in his arms as he hushed him.

He'd seen people at the court with young babies when he was a child and had remembered how they were supposed to be held and handled.

Alfred just quietly watched Arthur, soon standing up as well as he quickly started to get himself fixed up.

He at least wanted to be somewhat presentable at the very least. Even if it was only Arthur and the two babies.

"If you want, I can go into town and grab milk for him. I know how Madeline can be like when it comes to new things."

Arthur let the infant grab and pull at his fingers as he looked over to Alfred, one eyebrow raised.

"You mean, she's going to be longer than we originally thought?" he pursed his lips. "You can try to get some but it's... not quite the same as breast milk." Arthur glanced down at William, whose face was turning a little red from whimpering.

"If you can get some, get it," he changed his position on the issue as he looked down concernedly at the baby.

Alfred just nodded and he smiled.

"Yeah, don't worry! I'll be quick! I don't want to leave you with a crying baby for too long after all."

With that, he quickly hurried out of the house and towards the centre of the city so he could buy some milk for the babies.

It took him a while but he managed to buy some food for both Arthur and himself as well as some milk. He had no idea where Madeline was but he wasn't too concerned. As long as she was careful and there was that servant with her, he was certain that she would be fine.

He soon came back into the house.

"Got it!"

In the time that Alfred was gone, Eleanore also woke up and started crying. By the time Alfred got back, they were both bawling and Arthur looked incredibly frazzled. All of his attempts to calm them down hadn't worked.

He looked somewhere between relieved and pissed off that Alfred had returned.

"Great. But how do we feed them from a bucket, Alfred?" he sighed exasperatedly. "I've tried to make them stop and to calm down but they just won't stop crying!"

Alfred stroked Arthur's hair lightly and he smiled.

"Well luckily I thought of that before I got here."

He soon reached over from his satchel to grab a cow's horn and a leather sack. Grabbing the leather sack, he made sure to put milk in it before placing the wide end of the hollow horn at the opening of the leather sack.

"Here. Just feed it to them through the narrow end of the horn. The milk should be able to go right in easily. I've seen people do this before."

Arthur stared at him for a few moments, initially impressed with the inventiveness of the idea - but then he was annoyed that Alfred was leaving it up to him to stop the children from crying.

"So your job's done, is it?" he scowled, snatching the makeshift bottle before he headed back up to the bedroom, where the babies were lying. He picked up William first, seeing as he'd been crying the longest. He was careful, balancing William's head as he tried not to pour too much at once. This was going to be weird for William, considering that he was used to sucking and not drinking like adults.

Alfred just laughed a bit, smiling over at the other fondly.

"I'll feed Eleanore. Don't worry. I won't make you do all the work. Promise."

He soon followed the other, still panting a bit from how fast he was running. He watched as Arthur started to fead William and he smiled a bit.

He was glad that his small little invention was actually working. It wasn't exactly like what he had seen but it seemed like it would do well enough.

The baby in Arthur's arms clung to the horn, as though trying to pull it closer. But he seemed confused that it was hard and not soft like he was used to. Arthur watched him carefully, making sure that he wasn't going to choke or drown and soon enough, he handed the bottle to Alfred. He kissed William a few times, giving him some encouraging words for not dying on them before he moved the baby so he could burp him.

He looked at Alfred with his brow still furrowed.

"You do know how to feed a baby, yes?"

Alfred laughed a bit nervously, scratching the back of his head.

"I wish I knew but my expertise deals with young children, not infants. But maybe you can help me learn?" He offered with his nearly pleading blue eyes.

He was already holding Eleanore in his arms, stroking her hair lightly as he tried to sooth the young child.

Arthur sighed wearily and positioned his arms exaggeratedly, deliberately.

“You need to support her head, she’s still too young to lift her head fully.” He showed how William’s head rested in the crook of his arm. “If you position them correctly, you should be able to support her weight with that same arm pulled tight against your body. The other arm holds the bottle and keeps the baby in place. Do you understand?”

Alfred just smiled over at Arthur, nodding in understanding. He repositioned Eleanore so that she was more comfortable in his arms and she seemed to calm with that action.

"Yeah, I understand," He murmured. He soon gently grabbed the bottle, looking down at the baby girl before slowly beginning to feed her. She seemed eager and a rather hungry eater.

Alfred's heart couldn't help but soften at that.

Arthur felt himself become all warm inside at the sight of Alfred holding the Eleanore and how right they looked together. This would be the closest to parenthood the two of them would come. It upset Arthur profusely that he was taking that away from Alfred. He sighed slightly and then repositioned his arms so he could burp William again.

“They’re… very sweet, aren’t they?” he murmured.
