Alfred flushed hotly at the older man’s obvious approval. Never before had he worn clothing like this in his life, having come from a modest family and possessing a dislike for having to wear anything besides for comfort or functional uses. It was clear that he was totally out of his element. Still, he felt a small sense of pride knowing that Arthur was impressed. He lightly fingered the edge of his suit jacket and gave the Englishman a sheepish smile. “I was surprised too. He certainly had a little too much fun watching his wife and daughter doll me up.” As uncomfortable as he was in the clothing, Alfred realized it was their best chance of getting on the train and stopping the heist. Now all that was left, was for him to assume the role.

Stepping over to Liberty, he let her lightly nuzzle against his head as he addressed Arthur once more. “So now we just need to find clothing for you. You said something about getting some from the train... But, remember, we’re on the side of justice, so you can borrow, but you have to return once we’re done.” The words were sincere, but Alfred had every confidence in his new partner, so he said them with an easy smile and a hint of a joke behind it. The young sheriff turned temporary rich boy leaned against the stall door, holding his horses nose for comfort. Liberty sensed his anxiety, and allowed him to pat her soft nose and offered occasional nuzzles of comfort - both of which Alfred appreciated. But he couldn’t stay with her for long. They were on a deadline, and for this plan to work, they needed to get on the train and Arthur dressed as quickly as possible if they were to succeed. So Alfred forced himself away from Liberty and straightened his new jacket. He had a role to play.

“We’ll head over to the trains now. We can sneak you into the baggage car and I’ll meet you there?” To be honest, the sheriff wasn’t a hundred percent certain how this whole operation was supposed to happen. He now looked the part, so sneaking on the richer cars wouldn’t be a difficult thing. Once Arthur put together his look (assuming he didn’t get caught), he could meet up with him and they would continue together. That sounded like a reasonable enough plan. But first they needed to head to the train station. “Should I leave first and you can follow after? Oh, and...” Alfred fished around inside his coat and pulled out a revolver. “I know it’s not yours... but I thought you might need something, just in case.”

Arthur's green eyes couldn't stop from looking the Sheriff up and down. Everything about the suit seemed to complement him. Arthur was somewhat disappointed the man didn't dress like that all the time. He could honestly have anyone he wanted like that. "It won't be hard once I find someone my size. I hardly ever keep the clothes." He usually changed back before fleeing the train.

Alfred's word hit him and he thought about it. Arthur had never really done anything with someone else. He honestly wasn't sure who should leave first and who should follow. Usually Arthur was just with Victoria, so he would sneak both of them on the baggage cart and leave her there to do her do his thieving.

"I should probably leave first, after all, I've been her for some time." Arthur said, turning to find Victoria had given up on trying to keep his hat from him. He took it and patted her nose. "So I'll meet you on the train."

Arthur existed the stall just before Alfred started talking and fiddling around in his jacket. He pulled out a gun and held it out to Arthur. Arthur stood there for a second listening, and hesitating. "I...Thank you, Alfred." Arthur said with small smile. He took the revolver slowly and tucked it in his clothes, hidden from the world. "Do you have one as well?"

Alfred nodded, absentmindedly running his fingertips through Liberty’s mane. He supposed he would have to sneak on as well and meet up with Arthur in the baggage car, so they could travel into the wealthier car together. It was clear that the British man had a clearer idea of how to behave like the upper class, so he would simply have to tag along and look the part. After that however, his knowledge of the plan seemed to stop. He knew they needed to track down the thief, but how they would accomplish this while playing the role of rich boys eluded him. Hopefully Arthur knew what they were doing, because Alfred was relying heavily on his planning skills to get them out of a jam if need be. “I’ll meet you in the baggage car and we’ll head out together once we find you some proper clothes,” He responded, still lightly fingering the edge of his coat. No matter how well the suit fit him, he would never feel comfortable in it. “I hope you realize that I’m not exactly used to playing rich though.” I hope I don’t disappoint you.

At Arthur’s question, the sheriff unbuttoned the jacket and pulled it open, exposing his two pistols strapped across his chest. “Of course,” He said, smiling a bit, “I’m not much of a sharpshooter without my weapons.” They were just precautionary, seeing as the last thing he wanted to do was shoot somebody, but being without a weapon was a stupid move, especially when going up against criminals who will do just about anything to protect their freedom. He buttoned his jacket back up, and nodded towards the Brit. “Now you go. I’ll meet you there within the half hour.” Alfred smiled his easy smile and gave the smaller man a reassuring pat on the shoulder. He was scared yes, but the adrenaline was starting to build up, blocking all the other emotions. When Arthur left to go get in place, it took all of Alfred’s willpower not to follow immediately after. This is really happening. He thought to himself, rocking back and forth impatiently.

At fifteen minutes exactly, he departed the stable and headed towards the train station. On the way there, he was greeted by both flushing men and giggly women, and he tried to remain charming to everyone. Once at the station, he did his best to blend into the crowd, but to little avail. People everywhere seemed to be staring at him, but his new clothing did make getting on the train easier then expected. He had planned to sneak away and find the baggage car, but the porters on the train all but escorted him inside, no ticket necessary. Alfred was amazed by his good fortune, and strolled down the train trying to look like he belonged. Thankfully known of the wealthy Europeans had spotted him yet, and the other train cars had yet to be filled, making sneaking away easy enough. Locating the baggage car was another feat entirely. Having never been on a train before, he got easily turned around and confused, so it took longer then he would have liked to find it towards the end of the train. When he did, he nearly sighed in relief, and slowly opened up the door, as not to startle Arthur. “Arthur?” He called quietly, still a bit paranoid that he had been followed. Slowly he stepped inside and peeked around the piles of bags. “Are you there?”

Arthur nodded, he had someone figured Alfred wasn't going to be good a playing rich. However he didn't mind. He already had a plan it was surely something Alfred could play along with. Of course he thought it would be best not to tell Alfred right away about it. The boy was smart enough to make his acting look good enough for the story Arthur thought up. He might actually be able to be a bit of himself as well. "That might be best." Arthur said, "and don't worry about not fitting in if it doesn't work, I've got something." Arthur tapped his temple, before grinning at Alfred. The young sheriff looked like someone who won't carry again seeing as how he was dress. "Well yes, quite."

Arthur turned to leave and quickly made his way to the luggage cart of the train. It wasn't hard to find and he was able to sneak in when it was being loaded and the man had turned their backs. However he waited for them to close the door before he actually went to get ready. He opened a few trunks, cursing when something was way to big for him or women's cloths. Eventually he found a trunk that had clothes close to his size. He could ways lie and say had had lost some weight on the way over to America.

Quickly he changed into the grayish trousers, pressed white shirt and brown waist coat. He slid the gray jacket over top. He slipped on some fresh socks and some black shoes that were his size. He grinned when he saw a gray top hat, sliding it on his head. Arthur fixed his hair as much as he could.

He was dabbing on some cologne when he heard Alfred's voice. He quickly shot the trunk and set his folded clothes in a small opening between some trunks on the floor. "Yes, Alfred." Arthur said straightening up, it was the best he could do in the dark but there was always an excuse on the tip of his tongue it seemed. He readjusted the top hat and headed towards the Alfred. "We can get going now."

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

Post by Sheriff Jones Sun Aug 21, 2011 12:20 pm

The small room was far too dark for Alfred to get a proper look at Arthur, but he could make out his vague outline. It seemed he had indeed found some clothing to suit their charade, at least that’s what he assumed considering the top hat that now adored the Brit’s head. The younger man couldn’t help but chuckle at that. Considering Arthur’s English background and sensibilities, the top hat was a bit too much of a perfect fit. Where he no doubt looked uncomfortable and strange in such nice clothing, they suited Arthur. He was starting to understand how he had managed to pull off three successful train heists before - he could play that part of wealthy European without even trying. At least Alfred would be with the master of disguise, minimizing his chances of messing up.

Alfred waited by the edge of the baggage car for Arthur to find his way back to him, continuing to glancing over his shoulder in case of somebody coming in. “I found the car with all the wealthy Europeans; I assume that’s where we need to be in order to smoke this guy out.” Alfred held out a hand for Arthur, unconsciously helping the older man over the stacks of luggage if he needed it. Opening up the door leading out the train car. “It’s back towards the front. No one should stop us.” That’s what he assumed anyway - nobody had bothered him when he first got on the train, but now the ‘lower’ class was beginning to board. Alfred maneuvered his way through the train cars, trying to look pleasant and charming. Like he predicted, nobody stopped them and they were able to find the upper class in a matter of minutes. Alfred put on his best, most charming smile and mentally prepared himself for the snootiness of the wealthiest people in the entire west. Once he was positive he had a control over his anxiety, he pushed open the door and stepped inside.

Nearly every head turned to look up at the newcomers, but much to his relief, everybody seemed to accept them as one of their own and went back to their conversations. Alfred continued to smile and stepped to the side to allow Arthur to lead the way. He surveyed the room discreetly, looking over the finely dressed women who were more interested in their jewels then the company of others to the men who talked too loudly and drank too much. This was a world he had never been comfortable with. When he was a little boy, his mother had kept up a modest home on her own wages. The other women would look down upon her and ridicule her for not having a man to take care of her and her young son. He had always resented them for treating his mother without kindness, and now as he looked at the faces of those who could do so much for society with their wealth, all he felt was disgust. But right now, he needed to stay focused and pleasant. This was for the greater good of everyone.

Alfred stayed by Arthur’s side the entire time, nodding and smiling to anyone who happened to look up at him. Nobody seemed particularly suspicious of them, much to his relief, but on the other hand, he couldn’t spot anybody who might be their man. Everybody seemed to blend into the high class society with ease. But then again, Arthur had managed to disguise himself well - perhaps this thief was also a master. Alfred surveyed the room again, but more carefully this time. He caught sight of a very large man sitting towards the back of the car that he had failed to notice before. The man had light blond hair, so light it almost appeared white, but an almost childlike face that didn’t match his huge size at all. As Alfred looked him over, the man suddenly looked up and met his gaze. Alfred was shocked by the pair of violet eyes staring back him, so much so he almost stumbled into Arthur. The strange man gave him a grin and a little wave, before turning to the pretty women beside him. Alfred stood there for a second longer, staring at the large man as a shiver of fear ran through his spine. Never before had he seen a gaze filled with such emptiness, such malice. Just who was this man?

Arthur made his way through the dark cart with ease. He had done it before so it wasn't odd for him. His eyes easily adjusted to the darkness. He could make Alfred out easily, and took his awaiting hand for some extra balance as he worked his way through the mess of luggage. He let Alfred lead the way through the mess to the other cart. Usually he just searched for it himself, he knew it was towards the front, but it was nice to have someone there who could get him there quickly.

When they opened the door all the eyes turned to them and Arthur wasn't that surprised. Wealthy people wanted to know who was walking about in their presence. The clothes help make them seem fine enough. That or maybe Arthur's old knowledge of how to stand and hold himself. He glanced at Alfred, the American looked like he wasn't sure about everything, which was fine. Arthur glanced around, making it seem like he was looking for a place to sit, when he was really look for Francis and a place to sit.

He noticed there were two spots open by a woman in a rich blue dress. Arthur put on a charming smile and walked over to her. "I'm sorry my dear lady, but are those seats free, by chance." Arthur said his accent dripping with money.

"I don't believe so," the woman said turning to the man, who was clearly ignoring her talking to someone beside him, beside her before turning back. "Open!" She grinned.

"Thank you, good Madam." He smiled out before turning around to get Alfred's attention. "Alfred, good champ there are some seats here." He said before noticing Alfred was staring at something.

Blast all, surely the git knows staring isn't polite! Arthur thought sharply before his green eyes found want he was looking at. His heart sank, something in the back of his mind had told him this plan was a bit to thought out for Francis.Braginski. He walked over to Alfred and lightly tapped him on the shoulder.

"Alfred pay attention," Arthur said sharply, trying to sound annoyed and he was a bit, but he hoped Alfred wouldn't take it too seriously. He turned the woman by the open seats. "Honestly I don't see how my sister fell for him and got my father's approval." Arthur said with a roll of his eyes. He said it loud enough for Alfred to hear.

Alfred’s snapped his head away from the huge man at the sound of Arthur’s voice. It took him a moment to remember where he was and what was happening. His heart was beating so loudly in his ears, he could barely hear Arthur’s next words. Just who was that man? Why did his gaze scare him so much? There was some recognition, lodged deep within his subconscious that Alfred was both trying desperately to remember, and to forget at the same time. It was almost as if he had seen those eyes before, and knew exactly what they were capable of. The young sheriff’s heart continued to race. He pulled himself away from his thoughts when Arthur tapped on his shoulder, forcing himself to pay attention to his surroundings. Every noise within the train suddenly became amplified, making his head hurt and he struggled to concentrate on what Arthur was saying. Oh right, he had a role to play. Thankfully the British man had been kind enough to cast it for him.

Turning to the women by the open seats, he flashed a charming smile (albeit a little more strained then earlier). “Forgive my rudeness. My brother to be is convinced I have no manners. I would hate to prove right,” He laughed lightly, before politely stepping aside to let Arthur sit first. Once he was settled in, Alfred sat on the other side of him and tried to avoid those malicious purple eyes, although he felt them slide over to him and Arthur a few times and linger for longer then he felt comfortable. He slowly began to grow more and more nervous, his fingernails drumming lightly on the clothed armrest next to him. Why on earth was he so freaked out? It wasn’t the heist - he had felt anxious, but not this anxious. Besides, he had made his peace already to simply do his best and rely on Arthur for if things went on the wayside. This wasn’t normal. And why did the purple-eyed man keep looking over here? Although he did not look to see, he could picture the childish smirk mocking him from across the room.

Sitting there, trying to keep himself from running out of the room was torturous. He desperately wanted to confide in Arthur about his irrational fear and ask for guidance, but the situation didn’t allow for that. Still, he was convinced that the purple-eyed man was behind this crime. Doing his best to be subtle, he turned and caught Arthur’s gaze and nervously motioned towards the huge man. He could only hope he would get the message without him having to say anything. Alfred was about to try and settle back down in his seat (although it would have been unsuccessful no matter what), when a pretty young women with long blond hair walked up to him. She was stunningly beautiful, but she looked almost sullen, so he wasn’t quite sure how to respond. He smiled easily, and offered an almost unsure, “Can I help you ma’am?” The women glanced down at him and stayed quiet for a long moment before handing off a piece of thick paper. She turned away without a word and disappeared into another train car. Alfred stared after her, now very confused but opened the letter. The words on it made his blood freeze in his veins.

I have missed you, Fredka.

Alfred stood up, trying not to look too freaked out. “Excuse me, but I remembered I have some business I have to take care of. Please excuse ma’am, Arthur...” Without waiting for a response, he was down the isle and out the car door, desperately trying to find a quiet place to sit down for a moment to catch his breath. He found an empty car after a few minutes and sat down, laying his head between his legs and taking deep breaths. Ivan Braninski was on the train. He wasn’t supposed to be here. He was supposed to be stuck in that little dark corner of his memory along with all the bad things he experienced because of him. This wasn’t supposed to be happening again. Just breath Alfred. Breath... Still, he could not prevent the tears from building up behind his eyes. Why was this happening again?

Alfred eventually snapped out of his staring. Arthur was surprised at how well he could play that role. The woman beside him giggled, waving her hand about and muttered to Arthur that she could see why his sister fell for him. Eventually Arthur struck up a conversation with her, just mindlessly flirting while keeping in eye out. However when Alfred nodded towards Braginski, Arthur nodded softly and patted his arm as if to say Don't think about.

When a woman suddenly came up to Alfred her watched her closely. Glaring into her almost. He hoped it was enough for the girl to get the message and pass it one. She handed Alfred a paper and turned back with no words and a small glare at Arthur. Arthur wanted to lean over to possible see what the paper said. However Alfred shot up before he could do or say anything. All eyes on the cart turned to look and Arthur groaned in his hand.

He shook his head. "I told Father it wouldn't work." Arthur said leaning over to the woman beside him, still loud enough for the rest of the train to hear him. "He's not use to all this...wealth in one place. Still my Father thought it would be a splendid idea."

Hopefully everyone got that Alfred was someone of lower class. They all eventually went back to their business. Arthur stood excusing himself and asking the young woman to save the seats for them, and that he would be right back. Arthur glared down at Braginski when he passed by, of course the man's attention was else where and Arthur was glad.

He quickly worked his ways through cars. Eventually he found Alfred sitting in a slightly lower class car looking out the window. Arthur folded his arms and glared down at him tapping his foot as if to demand an explanation. Eventually Alfred turned around and looked at him...confused.

"What the bloody hell was that in there?" Arthur hissed out.

The Sheriff looked confused, his eyes looking all over the place before they settled on him. "What was what in where?" He asked back, his voice softer and overly confused.

"Don't start with me right now." Arthur groaned before reaching forward and grabbing Alfred's arm pulling him out of the seat. "I can't cover everything up with lies, Alfred."

Alfred struggled a bit and Arthur ignored his words, trying to make it back to the car they were in.

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

Alfred didn’t know how long he sat there, trying desperately to fight off his incoming panic attack, but he knew that Arthur would have made an excuse by now to come looking for him. The last thing he wanted was to be seen as a weakling by Arthur, so he forced himself to sit up and suppress his tears. They were still in the middle of an important operation to stop a major train heist; his full attention was required on that, not anything that might have happened in his past. Still, if Ivan was like anything he remembered, there wasn’t much point in trying to smoke the criminal out - he had already made himself known to the young sheriff. Alfred brought his arms around himself, shivering as he remembered the Ivan from his childhood. The note he sent fluttered down from his lap onto the carpeted floor beneath him, mocking him.

Fredka will be with me forever, da?

Alfred stood up and pushed open the compartment door, walking back to the car he had just left. Arthur was probably furious with him for running off like that when they had a job to complete; he really needed to get back to him before their cover was blown completely. The sheriff glanced at his reflection on one of the train windows, glad to see that he looked fairly the same. A bit paler then before, but still presentable. Hopefully Arthur wouldn’t press any questions as to why he ran off before - he didn’t think he was ready for that conversation just yet. He walked down the train slowly, giving himself plenty of time to mentally prepare himself for being forced to sit quietly in the same room as Ivan Braginski. At least no angry Arthur had popped up yet, meaning he may get back to him before he left the car.

A hand landed on his shoulder, making the young American wince. He had spoken too soon. Turning around to face what he thought would be his partner, already mentally preparing a false explanation as to why he ran off before. When he caught sight of who was actually behind him, the words caught in his throat. Arthur was not behind him, but a lovely young women was. Alfred’s cheeks immediately flushed as he stared down at her well endowed bosom without restraint. Incredible, he didn’t think he had ever seen anybody with a chest as big as that. “Excuse me?” A small voice broke through his amazement, and he instantly snapped his eyes up to the women's face. “Oh, I’m sorry ma’am! I was just...” No good explanation came to mind as to why he was staring at her ample cleavage, so he awkwardly coughed into his hand and moved on. “Uh... anyway, is there something I can do for you miss?” The women glanced around nervously, her hands fumbling with the cotton bottom of her blouse. She looked distressed, and Alfred was always a sucker for a women in need.

“I am sorry to bother you sir... but I am afraid there is a group of man who have been harassing me. I hate to ask this... but could you possibly...” The women said no more, but gave him a pleading apologetic look which Alfred immediately pitied. He couldn’t very well leave the poor women alone without anyone to defend her. Besides, it wouldn’t take long to find these guys, rough them up a bit to keep them from bothering her in the future. “Of course, it’s no problem at all ma’am,” He replied with an easy smile, “Just lead the way and I’ll take care of it.” The women smiled gratefully and began walking back the way he had come. They were nearly to the end of the train when she finally stopped. “Just in here,” she said, opening up the door for him. Alfred gave her a reassuring smile. “I promise I’ll take care of everything ma’am.” She gave him a shaky smile, but nodded. He stepped inside the darkened car, trying to spot the men who had bothered her. Turning around to ask the women where they were, he was meet with the sight of the door slamming closed. Alfred grabbed the handle and tugged frantically, but it was no use, he was locked in. “Hey!” He shouted, banging on the door, “Let me out!” The only sound that reached his ears were sniffles and a soft “I’m sorry Alfred...”

Panic rose into his chest as he pounded on the door, desperately trying to make it give. Nothing seemed to work, but he refused to stop trying. He didn’t know the reason he had been tricked into this room, but he wasn’t about to stick around long enough to find out. Alfred kicked the door uselessly, adrenaline pounding in his ears. Out, he needed to get out! “Arthur! Arthur! Somebody!” He shouted, although he doubted anybody would hear him. There were no passenger cars on this side of the train. Why was he such a moron following a strange women to the most secluded part of the entire train? Damn his naivety! Alfred groaned and punched the door with all his might, managing to make a small dent before resigning himself to his fate. He stepped back and unstrapped the pistols from his chest. If he couldn’t avoid what was about to happen, that least wouldn’t be caught empty handed. Alfred loaded both pistols and kept them close, staring at the door with calculated concentration. He hated being tricked, especially by exploiting his desire to help people. Somebody had a lot to answer for. The door began to slide open and Alfred raised a gun, taking aim as the figure standing there. He didn’t waver as the figure stepped forward, those malicious purple eyes boring deeply into his own, a deep “Hello Fredka,” reverberating in the mental car that surrounded him.

"Let. Me. Go." Alfred suddenly said sharply yanking his hand arm out of Arthur's hold and crossing his arms. Arthur turned just as sharply. Arthur wasn't always a patient man, he had a temper and when it was unleashed it was not pretty. Still he attempted to control it, Alfred was his partner after all and the plan won't work if they were on edge with each other. "Look I don't know who you are-"

The sheriff had to be joking, if Arthur recalled he hadn't hit his head on anything. "Bloody hell, Alfred, you know who I am." Arthur snapped, not wanting to say his name because someone would get someone on him quick.

"My name's not Alfred." Alfred suddenly stressed and Arthur raised an eyebrow. "Look however you know my brother, I don't care, but I'm Matthew."

Arthur felt his heart drop and then he cursed in his had like a mad man. Looking closer, Alfred, no Matthew, was different from Alfred. His hair was longer and wavy and there was an odd curl. His glasses were round and his eyes a different shade of blue. Matthew wasn't as built as Alfred either. How could he mess that up so bad. Alfred said he had a brother, and you've only known him for two days.

"If your Alfred's brother..." Arthur said ignoring Matthew's correction of "twin". "Then where the bloody hell is Alfred?"

Part of Arthur's mind told him he would come back eventually he saw the woman who gave Alfred the not. "Oh, Bollocks." He quickly started down the train again, leaving Matthew confused, only to have him follow after him. What the bloody hell does Braginski want with Alfred?

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

Post by Sheriff Jones Mon Aug 22, 2011 12:50 pm

Alfred stood his ground, keeping both pistols aimed at the larger man in the doorway. A cold shiver ran up his spine, but he refused to back down or show any weakness. He had no idea what this man had in store for him, but he would be damned before he showed Ivan how terrified he really was. The man seemed to smirk as he stepped into the room, letting the door fall closed behind him. The resounding click left an ominous feeling in the pit of his stomach, but his aim didn’t waver. Ivan stepped closer and Alfred shifted to the side carefully to keep him as far away as possible. He was careful to keep himself from being cornered. When going up against somebody as mentally unstable as Ivan Braginski, the last thing he needed was to give him any edge.

The platinum blond stared at him with nothing but amusement, seemingly unconcerned by the two guns aimed at his chest. In fact, he even let out a small chuckle which in turn, caused Alfred to shiver against his will. “Dear Fredka, you have not changed,” He said, slipping his hands into his trouser pockets. Alfred glanced down, half expecting him to pull out a gun of his own. Nothing of the sort happened, leaving the sheriff to glance nervously down ever couple seconds. Ivan just continued to smile pleasantly, as if they were two old friends who were having a lovely reunion. “What? No words for an old friend?” He said, after a few minutes of tense silence, a mocking pout on his face. “We weren’t friends Braginski,” Alfred snapped, holding the pistols so tightly that his knuckles turned white from the strain.

Ivan just laughed and pulled something out of his pocket. Alfred jumped back, preparing to defend himself against and attack, but none came. The huge Russian man was smiling fondly down at an old photograph, his fingertips running over the worn edges in an almost loving manner. “You used to be so sweet. You weren’t afraid of me. Then you left me.” He tightened his hands around the picture, crushing it and letting it drop to the floor. “You promised not to leave Fredka, what happened to that?” Ivan said, his eyes flashing with demented malice. Alfred took another step back, the panic now beginning to show on his face. “You tried to hurt me! What else was I supposed to do Ivan? Why are you here now? It’s been years, ah!” The Russian’s hands clenched tightly against each of his wrists, squeezing in a threatening manner until each of his pistols had fallen to the floor.

Alfred threw away trying to talk his way out of this, now in full on panic mode. Quick as he could, he landed a powerful kick against the back of Ivan’s knees, causing him to falter and release his arms. Moving as quickly as he could, he lunged across the room and wrenched the door open, only managing to take one step outside before a large hand caught his shoulder. He was spun around and shoved painfully into the door. Alfred almost growled and snapped his arm back, ready to punch when Ivan did something he did not expect. He grabbed the top of his blond hair and yanked his head forward, effectively bringing their lips together in a rough kiss.

Arthur quickly made his way through the cars, desperately looking around for Alfred. This wasn't good at all. Arthur honestly should have though this was something too smart for Francis, and he would never let word of it get out. Francis, though Arthur hated to admit it, was as good as Arthur. But surely he would have said something if he knew Braginski would be on board unless Braginski got to him before. That or he just wanted Arthur gone. His head was spinning with ideas he was being blinded by it.

A hand suddenly grabbed Arthur by the collar and slowed him down. Arthur turned to find Matthew out of breath and looking extremely cross. "Listen, I don't know who you are, how you know my brother, or why the hell you two are on the train. Mind filling me in." Matthew said with amazing firmness.

Arthur sighed, rubbing his temples trying to ease away some of the thoughts. "We're busting a train heist, but I think it's becoming less of that as time goes one, someone would have made a move by now." Arthur said glancing around, there was only one more cart of people before they got to the luggage carts. "I meet you're brother two days ago, and I'm Arthur Kirkland." Arthur said with a tip of his hat and started storming down the cars again.

"What like the crook?" Matthew asked following after Arthur in perfect step.

"Two days ago I would have said yes," Arthur yelled over the wind before heaving a door open, "but now I'm a Sheriff's partner." Arthur said before hurrying down the cars quickly. "Now can I find your brother!?" Arthur fished into his waistcoat pulling out the gun Alfred gave him. "Alfred!" he called loudly, continuing to do it at ever door he came too.

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

Alfred couldn’t move. He was so shocked that he could barely comprehend what was happening. Ivan’s chapped lips moved against his own, roughly forcing open his mouth until his slippery tongue could ravish his mouth without restraint. He was vaguely aware of a hand slowly making its way down his side, slipping up beneath his coat to stroke the bare skin it found there. His body felt numb, heavy, like he had a huge weight against his chest, preventing him from moving. This first sexual experience of any kind, and it was with somebody who only wanted to possess him, not love him. He never felt more helpless in his life. Still, he couldn’t find the power to push himself away, even as Ivan bit down on his bottom lip so hard and a tiny trickle of blood trailed down his chin. He just stood there and allowed Ivan to pull him closer, his shirt being pushed up in the process. Then he heard Arthur’s voice.

Something inside of him snapped when he heard Arthur calling for him. Feeling came back and suddenly everything came into sharp focus. Alfred’s raised his fist and punched Ivan’s jaw as hard as he possibly could. The Russian man flew back, blood trickling down his mouth from biting tongue because of the force of the hit. Alfred wasted no time, landing another hard kick against his stomach. Ivan doubled over in pain, giving the sheriff enough time to sprint out of the room and down the length of the car. “Arthur!” He shouted, least somebody else come out from the shadows and grab him. Rounding the corner, he came face to face with the British man. Instantly, tears began building up behind his eyes and he did the only thing his mind seemed to comprehend - he pulled him into a tight hug. “Arthur,” He said, shoulders shaking from both relief and suppressed anxiety. Seeking comfort, he pressed his face against the smaller man’s shoulder. “We need to get off this train Arthur. I don’t know how long it will be before he comes back.”

Alfred pulled back slightly, grabbing Arthur’s hand and yanking him down the hallway. They needed to get out of here, or at least find some place safe to hide. He had put a lot of power behind those hits, but he somehow doubted they would keep the Russian down for long. And now that he was angry, who knew how he would react. Damn, his guns! He had left them in the car - too late to go back for them now. He cursed under his breath, but made no move to retrieve them. Getting out of Ivan’s control was much more imperative then saving his pistols. Alfred raced forward and made a move to open the door leading to another car when a hand stopped him. Immediately he whipped his head around, fearing it was Ivan again, but stopped when he saw a face too similar to his own. “Matthew?” He asked, fear draining away to confusion. “What are you doing here?”

The moment Arthur heard his name called he hurried to it, only to have Alfred round the corner. He had very little time to look him over before he was grabbed in a tight hug. He stood there oddly, he had never really been hugged as such before and wasn't sure what to do. Alfred buried his face on his shoulder and Arthur blushed, bringing his arms around Alfred slowly, shushing him gently.

Suddenly they were running down the carts again towards people. Arthur turned back, his green eyes notice Braginski crawling out of the car in pain. He cocked his gun and firing. He knew his aim was off but the gunshot was more than enough warning for anyone. Sane or not.

They came to a stop suddenly and Arthur turned to find Matthew. Arthur had forgotten all about him for a second. "I could say the same thing." Matthew said quickly pulling his brother into a sharp hug.

Alfred was given no time to react when his long lost twin pulled him into a tight hug. If circumstances had been different, he would have been content holding Matthew for a good two or three hours, just to get used to the feeling again. Unfortunately, they had more pressing matters to attend to besides catching up. Still, he looped his arms around his brothers waist, happily pulling him closer. “Mattie! You moved out to the west? I thought you would still be back in Virginia! Why are you all the way out here? Don’t you have a pretty wife and a couple of cute little kids that you named after me?” A loud bang sounded against the car door behind him, causing the two brothers to jump apart. Right, they were still in the middle of something. Thankfully it wasn’t it didn’t appear to be Braginski or any of his creepy little henchmen, otherwise they would have popped out already and started grabbing at them. The noise came from behind a closed car door with the blinds concealing what was inside. Alfred glanced at Arthur before cautiously moving to open the door. A prone figure fell out onto the hallway, causing him to jump back once more. At first, he thought it was a body, but after closer examination, Alfred realized it was a bound person. A person, he actually recognized.

“It’s that creepy French guy from last night!” He exclaimed, pointing at the squirming Francis. Huh, that was strange. He wondered why somebody would go through the trouble of restraining him and locking him in an empty passenger car. Actually, thinking back to how forward he had been the previous night, he could understand why someone would want him unable to move his limbs. Matthew leaned down and untied the scarf around Francis’s mouth, and the Frenchman immediately went off about the other’s gracious nature. “Matthieu! Mon cher, you are so kind! A lovely women was trying to seduce me by promising all sorts of naughty acts including ropes, and she tricked me into this room and tied me up! But you have come to my rescue. Oh, mon cher, how can I...” Matthew cut the other off by tying the handkerchief back around his mouth, an irritated expression on his face. He mumbled something darkly under his breath, but picked up the annoying Frenchman and threw him over his shoulder with a surprising amount of strength. “I’ll take care of him,” He said simply, throwing him a warning glare not to struggle too much.

Alfred laughed a bit nervously at the darkened expression on Matthews face, and decided now was not a good time to ask about his involvement with the perverted Frenchie. They had already wasted enough time standing there. They needed to get moving again. Nodding to his brother, he once again grabbed Arthurs hand and took off down the train car, this time not stopping until he was convinced Ivan was not going to jump out and grab him from behind. He lead them into an empty train car and quickly closed the blinds for privacy. It wasn’t a very safe hiding spot, but he needed a few minutes to discuss with Arthur about what to do next. Matthew had the Frenchman seated on one of the chairs and was looking him over for what Alfred hoped to be wounds (although Francis appeared to think otherwise), but it kept the two of them sufficiently distracted while he talked privately to his partner. Alfred pulled the Brit to the side, his eyes full of barely restrained fear. “Arthur, I know we have to stop this heist, and I know we have to catch this bad guy, but... I don’t think I can stay on this train any longer. That guy, Ivan, he’s totally insane! He...” Alfred stopped, unsure of what to say next. He didn’t want to own up to the fact that he allowed himself to be taken advantage of so easily, but he doubted Arthur hadn’t already figured it out. His clothes were disheveled, his hair was a mess, and although he couldn’t see, he was sure his lips were bleeding and swollen - altogether, he wasn’t looking so good. “He... please can we just get out of here?” He asked, blue eyes pleading.

Arthur watching behind them, making sure no one followed them, because that was the last thing he wanted. He knew from word not to get in the way Braginski way. However the bang behind them startled him and he whipped around cocking his gun only to see Francis topple out when the door was opened. Well, that confirms everything. Arthur thought looking over his shoulder.

He was suddenly grabbed by Alfred and this time turned so he didn't stumble about too much, following after Alfred. He quickly shut the door and locked it. He found himself panting and leaning against the wall looking all about the car. He looked at Alfred, finding it was the first time he could truly look at him since they found each other.

The Sheriff's clothes were out of order and ravished. There was some blood on his chin, but Alfred seemed find other than that. Francis was only tied up it seemed, actually Arthur didn't really care if he was injured. He let Alfred pull him aside, hoping Alfred might tell him something that would help him figure out why in the world Braginski would want him and put something this huge up.

"Shush," Arthur said softly, "I know we have to get of this train." Arthur cursed in his head wishing he could somewhat treat Alfred's lip that looked worse up close. "It's not a heist," Arthur gently took Alfred's hand, "no one would look that much into anything for what they could grab off some rich Europeans."

Arthur turned to look at Matthew and Francis, before letting out a sigh. "Matthew, can you look at your brother...I need to talk with Francis." Arthur said peeking around Alfred and pointing too Francis in the chair.

Relief bubbled up from Alfred’s stomach when he realized that Arthur was going to help them get off the train. From the soft grip on his hand to the gentle expression on the Brit’s face, he had no doubt in his mind that the other man was doing his best to reassure him that everything would be alright. A strange soft of affection for his partner filled his chest, causing him to smile brightly for the first time since this hellish job started. “Thank you Arthur,” he said earnestly, thanking whatever God up there for bringing him into his life. Feeling much calmer then before, Alfred sat down by the window and stared out at the desert. Everything was untouched, wild, beautiful, just like he wanted it to stay. He suddenly wished it was yesterday again, back when he and Arthur were sitting underneath the shade of the mesquite trees, talking of stars. Perhaps they could go back there when all was said and done and see the stars for real. Right now, all he wanted to do was lay underneath the sky with Arthur and let the world pass him by.

Alfred blinked when a hand waved in front of his face. Matthew was looking at him in concern, gently touching the sides of his face as he looked over for any injuries. “I’m fine Mattie,” He said, trying to push his twin away, “Nothing happened.” The quieter of the two frowned at his stubbornness, and forced him to sit still as he looked him over. It took a few minutes, but once the other was assured he wasn’t lying, he was released. “I told you I wasn’t hurt,” He mumbled, shooting his brother an annoyed glare. Matthew frowned and sat beside him. “Well, you were off in your own little world. I had to be sure you didn’t somehow sustain a concussion. But the only thing that seems to be wrong is your lip is busted.” Alfred looked down, hoping he wouldn’t ask for an explanation. His brother seemed to understand his unwillingness to talk and instead pulled out a handkerchief to carefully wipe away the blood. They stayed silent as the he worked until Alfred’s face was relatively clean once more. “It’s good to see you again Mattie,” He said suddenly, giving his twin a smile. Matthew carefully folded up his handkerchief, flashing a soft grin of his own. “You too Al.”

The two brothers sat in silence. Alfred went back to staring out the window as Matthew glanced around the small train car. He did his best to ignore the two criminals in the corner (yes he was aware of both their reputations, although he still had yet to figure out Alfred’s connection to Kirkland), instead focusing on Alfred’s face. Concern showed in his lavender blue eyes and his gaze flickered down to his brothers swollen lips. Alfred turned back to face his brother, a pleading expression on his face. “Don’t Mattie,” He murmured softly. His brother frowned and reached in to take the sheriff’s hand, giving it a gentle squeeze. Still, he conceded with his twins wishes and didn’t say a word. Both of the brothers turned to look out the window, holding each other lightly as they watched the world go by.

Arthur felt his chest tighten at Alfred's smile, he also found it contagious and smiled back at him. Maybe it was the thank you as well. He slipped his hand out of Alfred's and headed over to there Francis was sitting in the chair. He glanced at the man, before yanking the gag out of his mouth.

"Its about time you came around, Mr. Kirkland." Francis said with smirk.

"I have a bloody gun, Frog." Arthur said sharply and flatly. "Did Braginski but you up to this?"

"Mon cher you know how I can be when money is waved in my face. I can't help it if the man had a good deal for use just showing up and pretending to rob the train." Francis said shaking his head to get some hair out of his eyes. "You already screwed that up."

Arthur growled he did not what Francis to start with him. "Obviously you're not getting your money if you were tired up and shoved in some bloody closet." Arthur said folding his arms. "We need to stop this bloody train." Francis raised an eyebrow. "Braginski has eyes all over the inside of the train."

"Even I think I've figured you out you surprise me Arthur." Francis said with a smirk before Arthur turned around to the other two.

"Ever walked on top of a train, gentleman." Arthur said with a smirk.

Arthur’s voice broke through the brother’s silence. Both Alfred and Matthew looked over at the two crooks with matching expressions of confusion before the weight of the sentence caught up to them. Matthew’s face was the picture of horror while Alfred tilted his head back, kind of intrigued by the possibility. It was a good way to get to the engine room without being noticed by Braginski’s spies - dangerous, but far less risky then running through the remaining train cars. “Never in my life, but sounds like fun,” Alfred finally responded, his usual grin appearing back on his face. His twin brother looked terrified and quickly grabbed the sheriff’s sleeve, shaking his head frantically. “No, no, no, no. You are completely crazy if you think I’m letting you walk on the top of a speeding train.” Alfred sighed before giving his brother a serious look. “If Arthur says it’s necessary, I believe him. There are some bad people on this train Mattie, we need to stop it and get off before somebody gets hurt.” The twins stared at each other for a long moment, each trying to get the other to back down. Finally, Matthew let out a long sigh, relenting to the crazy plan with a slightly pained look on his face.

Once that was out of the way, Alfred looked over to Arthur and gave him trusting smile. “Alright partner, I guess you’re up.” Before anyone could move however, a certain Frenchman coughed loudly, trying to grab the attention of the room. He was still bound rather tightly, the only thing free was his mouth (unfortunately), and he seemed less than pleased about that. “Oh so, I suppose I am to be left here and await my demise while you three waltz off into the sunset? Mon cher Arthur, you know exactly what will happen to me if Braginski finds me here.” Alfred frowned, staring at the creepy Frenchman with contempt. Although he wasn’t entirely certain what had happened, he figured Francis had something to do with it. If he was the reason Ivan was able to do what he did, then the sheriff was tempted to let him get exactly what he deserved. But on the other hand, it cruel to leave him here to die. Francis was creepy and perverted (from his limited experiences with the man), but he didn’t deserve that. Just as he was about to open his mouth however, Matthew beat him to it. “We’re not going to leave you here,” He said, his usually soft voice leaving no room for discussion or disagreement, “But don’t think you’re allowed to pull anything like this again Francis.” The blond then went over to untie his bounds - neither him nor the Frenchman said a word.

Alfred peeked out of the shades leading to the hallway to check and see if anybody had caught up with them. A few doors away were a group of men who looked less like regular passengers and more like hired thugs. He swore and quickly replaced the shade. “I think it’s time for us to get out of this car.” Francis was already at the window, forcing it open with practiced skill. Once it was clear, he turned to the twins and grinned. “After you.” Alfred glanced at Arthur, then Matt before taking a step forward. Now or never, he thought to himself, climbing up out of the window. He grabbed the railing tightly and hoisted himself up with brute strength, crawling on to the slightly curved top of the car. He allowed himself a few seconds to mentally prepare himself before standing. It was exhilarating. Wind rushed through his hair and pulled at his clothes so quickly, it was disorienting at first. The speed of the train made his heart pound out of both fear and excitement. The feeling was unlike anything he had ever experienced before and he loved it. He was vaguely aware of Mattie joining him a few moments later, followed by Francis and then finally, Arthur. When he caught sight of his partner, he couldn’t help but laugh. “This is amazing!” He shouted to the green-eyed man, his own Sapphire orbs shining with excitement.

Arthur was happy the plan was accepted immediately, and eventually got Matthew in on it was well. It would be quicker, spies or no spies, there was less people on the top of the train than actually in the train. Francis worked the window like an expert, and Arthur wasn't too surprised, Francis was a famous train thief before he came to America, and Arthur had the pleasure of meeting him just before his business went down hill.

Arthur watched as Alfred, Matthew and Francis climbed out the wind. Alfred and Matthew taking a bit longer than usual, but that was to be expected. He glanced at the door, so far no one had tried to get in. Finally it was his turn, and Arthur tucked the gun in his waistcoat again, held his top hat in his teeth and worked his way out of the window.

"Just don't bloody fall off, git." Arthur said as he reached for the rail to heave himself up.

"Hey! Open up in there!" A loud voice came from the door with a loud bang, and Arthur turned to look at it.

He cursed, it getting lost in the wind. He grabbed the rail when the banging on the door started to sound like someone running into instead of someone's fist. He put his feet on the sill of the window. He was going to heave himself up when an arm ripped his legs from the sill and into the train again. He gave a yelp of surprise and started kicking wildly.

"Get to the Engine and stop the train." Arthur shouted, his hat flying off with the wind. He looked at Alfred, they had to do that, there was nothing else to do. "I'll catch up!" Arthur said before he was suddenly ripped back into the train.

Alfred watched with wide eyes as Arthur was ripped from the railing back into the train car. “Arthur!” He shouted, immediately rushing back over to the edge. His balance faltered slightly, but he caught himself before he was sent tumbling to his death. Dammit, dammit, dammit, they needed to stop the train, but he couldn’t leave Arthur alone, not after everything he had done for him. Alfred shook his head, making a snap decision that could be considered either very stupid, or very brave. He turned towards his brother and Francis, his usually easy going expression morphing into one that spoke no nonsense. He wasn’t messing around anymore - not with somebody he cared about at stake. “You two, go to the engine and stop the train. I’m counting on you both. If you,” He pointed towards Francis, the warning edge in his voice impossible to miss, “If you do anything to hurt my brother, I can promise ten times that amount of pain in the near future.” The Frenchman shivered a bit, but Alfred was far too preoccupied swinging his leg back over the railing, focusing all his energy on climbing down to help his partner. He vaguely registered Mattie and Francis jumping to the next car, but that was hardly of any importance to him at the moment. All that mattered was getting to Arthur.

He managed to climb down next to the window he had entered from, holding on tightly to the side of the train as the wind ripped through him. He leaned in to the window, assessing the situation in a matter of seconds before pulling back. Three men, the possibility of them all being armed was high. There were two who were currently wrestling with Arthur, one had his back to the window while the last one was by the door. His mind made quick work of this all until he determined the plan that was most likely to succeed. It was a long shot, but it was the only one he had. Alfred didn't waste another second and launched himself back into the train car, throwing his entire weight onto the man who had his back turned. They both toppled onto the ground where the young sheriff easily gained the upper hand due to his brute strength. Within seconds, he had the man's revolver in hand. Instead of shooting, he knocked the butt of the gun against his skull, effectively knocking the man out. Then he flipped the gun expertly with one hand and took aim for the man who was fighting with Arthur, clipping him in the shoulder and the knee. He collapsed in pain, giving Arthur enough time to escape. That only left the man by the door.

Alfred was on his feet in a matter of seconds, the revolver trained in on the thug's heart. However, his initial entrance had taken longer then expected, so the man already had a gun of his own out and had taken aim. The sheriff inwardly cursed himself for being too slow to disarm the last criminal - all there was left to do was a either out shoot him, or wait for reinforcements. Either way, the options were not in his favor. Still, there was one chance they could all get out of here without anyone hurt - if the thug reacted the way he hoped. "It won't matter if you manage to shoot me. You realize it's still two against one. Arthur will shoot you down before you have the chance to get to him. So I'm giving you the chance to run." The man made no move to leave. Alfred frowned and tightened his hold on the revolver. "You can have your life. Why waste that on trying to kill us? Your life is worth more then that." The man said nothing, but raised his gun higher. Alfred's sharp eyes caught the slight tremor within his trigger finger. He was going to fire. Alfred didn't hesitate; he pulled the trigger and fired. Two gunshots rang simultaneously rang throughout the train car.

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

"Hey stop moving!" The thugs commanded and Arthur wasn't going to give in so easily. He wrestled about with the two men. They were bigger than him, and surely stronger. Arthur had speed and flexibility and not so much strength. So he flailed his legs about, desperately trying to get free so he would have a fair fight.

Suddenly he was free on one side and he spun around and punched the other man in the nose. He was let go then, but the man was angry and came at Arthur with eyes blazing with hate. He fought the best he could but the man landed a blow his face and he stumbled back. Gunshots rang out and he saw the man crumble to the ground in pain and he turned to see Alfred.

His heart soared for the fact that Alfred didn't leave him, but it also beat with rage for not listening to him. However Arthur noticed there was still the man at the door. His mind was stilling quickly as his eyes watched Alfred and him have a short stand off and Alfred said his usual word. The man seemed distracted enough by them that Arthur might have been able to sneak around and punch the man in the face and throw him off.

It didn't seem to be the case, because the man noticed him, and moved his gun ever so slightly to the side. The room filled with two gunshots and the smell of gunpowder was in the air. He blinked, watching as the man fell to the ground, dropping his gun and sliding again the door in pain. Alfred was a really sharp shooter if the man still seemed alive but in pain.

Green eyes turned to Alfred and could see he was fine, before he wondered where the other bullet went. He glanced down and found red seeping into the clothes, that weren't even his, on his left side. He gently touched it with his hand bringing it closer to this face. It didn't hurt oddly, but then it suddenly started coursing pain up his body. "Oh Bollocks," he muttered before stumbling back.

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

The moment after he fired, Alfred tensed himself for the pain that was to come. He had been a half second too slow to prevent the thug from firing and realized there was no way to avoid the bullet. He stayed still even as his opponent dropped to the ground in pain. Alfred frowned in confusion and looked down at himself. No wounds, no blood, he hadn't be shot at all. But there had been the sound of another gun firing, he had been sure of that. So where had the bullet connected? Arthur's curse brought everything into focus and slowly Alfred looked up to see crimson billowing out from a jagged hole in his partner's jacket. The sheriff's heart stopped. No, not Arthur. It wasn't supposed to be Arthur getting hurt! He was supposed to have save him, not cause this! Alfred moved without realizing it, his arms wrapped tightly around the smaller man's form in support. "Arthur. Dammit Arthur, I'm sorry. I should have been faster. I should have..." He winched, staring down at the blood trickling down from the Brit's side. "It should have been me who got hurt. Not you."

As gently as he possibly could, Alfred sat Arthur down and began pulling open his coat and shirt. He didn't know if there was anything he could do to help with the pain or bleeding, but he would be damned if he didn't at least try. The bullet wound was embedded in Arthur's left side, causing long tears of blood to drip down his stomach. Alfred cringed and slowly pulled back to rip off long strips of cloth from his dress shirt. There wasn't anything to help with the pain right now, but if he didn't make a tourniquet, the bleeding would kill him before they could get help. "I'm sorry for the pain," He murmured gently, wrapping each strip around his waist. tightly as possible. Almost instantly, blood began seeping through and Alfred's heart caught in his throat at the sight of it. If there wasn't a town nearby, it was very likely that Arthur wouldn't make it. No. He forced himself to shake off that possibility. They would find help. Arthur would be alright. He wasn't going to let this man die on him, not when he still had the power to prevent it.

Suddenly, the train was screeching to a stop. Alfred quickly looped an arm around Arthur's waist and slammed his opposite hand against the back cushion to keep from jostling him too much. Looks like Mattie and Frenchie managed to do it. Although given the circumstances, Alfred wasn't sure if that was a good thing or not. They were still in danger of Braginski's men, but Arthur's wound was a much more immediate threat. Still, acting was better then waiting around for someone else to find them. Once the train began to slow, Alfred stood up and pulled Arthur into his arms, being mindful of his side. "Put your arm around my neck and hold on. I'm going to find you some help. Just stay awake Arthur." With that he was out the door and down the hall. He thanked his luck that the rest of the car appeared to be empty and kicked open the door leading off the train. All around them was desert. This morning he would have seen the beauty of something so wild, but now, with Arthur bleeding out in his arms, all he saw was death. Alfred's hands shook as he stared out into the vast wilderness. "Don't worry Arthur," He said, his voice thick with suppressed tears, "I'll find you somebody. Just stay with me, okay? Everything will be alright. I promise."

This Town is Big Enough... - Page 4 Empty Re: This Town is Big Enough...

Shock took over Arthur's mind, making him oddly alert and slowly, painfully slow, make the world around him seem alright. He would have tripped over on of the bodies as he stumbled back, but Alfred caught him. Arthur registered what he meant, bit his mind told him why before he could ask. "Shoulda, woulda, coulda," Arthur said smartly, the back of him mind screaming at him to say something reasonable and cursing the shock.

He felt Alfred set him down on a seat. He would feel all logical thought floating away from him. He's last bit of reason told him to keep his mouth shut. He cringed and whimpered slightly at the pain that was coming back to his side. "Pressure," he muttered when something reasonable came to his tongue.

The train jerked a bit and he felt the sheriff hold him steady. He groaned slightly, wanting to bury himself in Alfred's neck and just stay there. But he did what Alfred told him and looped an arm around his neck. He attempted to walk with Alfred, but his legs would work periodically, so Arthur would walk to or three steps and be somewhat dragged about till he man his legs function again. He listened to the American and hummed lightly, before somewhere in his fogged mind he thought talking would be a good idea.

"Oi, Alfred!" He said demanding something he wasn't sure off yet. "I didn't get to run on the top of the train," he complained childishly before he stumbled on a small rock. "I want to do that with you. Let's do it sometime okay. Promise me will do it, okay." Arthur said with a loopy grin. He rambled on and on, after that, mindless things. His sense was starting to come back to him as they walked along. "I'm glad I met you," he said resting his head on the young sheriff's shoulder.

Alfred's tongue felt thick, hot tears were collecting behind his lashes but he refused to let them out. He listened quietly to Arthur's half delusional rambling and held onto his stumbling form, simply staring out at the open desert. There wasn't anything else he could do for him. They were still stuck in the middle of the desert, only a few mere feet away from a train filled with men who would love nothing more then to kill them both. Arthur was dying. The knowledge weighed heavily on his breaking heart, but it would do them no good to deny it. As far as he knew, nobody within a hundred miles possessed the skills needed to save his life, so Alfred vowed to do the little he could for Arthur now.

He looped his arms carefully around the smaller man's form, pulling him up against his chest. Holding him close, Alfred walked out away from the train and sat down. All around there was nothingness and sky. A dangerous sort of beauty that even now, Alfred found beautiful. As gently as he could, the young sheriff lay Arthur against his chest. "I'm glad I meet you too Arthur," He said, smiling softly down at the green-eyed man. "And I promise that one day soon, we'll get to run along the top of the train together. We're partner's, right? We'll get another opportunity soon." His voice broke on the last word and he could not prevent the stream of tears from trailing freely down his cheeks. Alfred leaned forward, hesitating for a slight second before pressing a soft kiss against Arthur's lips. Stay with me Arthur. Left with nothing else to do for the dying man, he pressed his face lightly against Arthur's soft blond hair and prayed for a miracle.

"Alfred!"

The sheriff looked up to see his brother and Francis running towards them. "Mattie!" He called, voice still thick with tears. "Arthur was shot! He's..." He couldn't finish his sentence, instead staring down at the man half laying on him. Matthew was by his side in a matter of seconds, frantically working open a black satchel. "Lie him down flat. He commanded, pulling out various shiny scalpels and a bottle of whiskey. When Alfred didn't immediately react, the other twin repeated with a more commanding, "Lie him down Alfred!" The sheriff did as he was told and watched in amazement as Matthew cut off his crudely made tourniquet and poured the alcohol over the wound. "You're a doctor?" He mumbled, still not fully believing this was real.

Matthew didn't reply, instead focusing solely on removing the bandages. When the way was clear, Matthew retrieved a small scalpel and tweezers before letting out a sigh. "Hold him down." Alfred maneuvered himself behind his partner and pressed both hand against his arms and chest, holding him in place as his brother worked. It was painful to watch, but Mattie had quick, experienced hands and the bullet was was out before he realized it and new bandages were being wrapped up to cover it. As he set his tools aside, Matthew spoke in a careful, soft voice. "I did the best I could, but he already lost a lot of blood. We'll have to wait the night in order to know for sure. Francis," The Frenchman was standing not too far off, looking uncharacteristically solemn, "Is there a town nearby?"He nodded and pointed back the way they had come. Matthew nodded before turning to Alfred, his expression softening "Can you carry him? It will be better if we can get him into bed for the night. I don't want to risk infection." Alfred nodded and carefully picked Arthur back up. He pressed another soft kiss against his cheek, holding him close as they walked. "Stay with me Arthur."
