Arthur hummed gently at the touch on his thigh and pressed a little closer, beginning to trace small and light patterns on to Alfred’s chest, through his shirt. He closed his eyes somewhat.

“And I you, my darling,” he smiled, kissing his neck quickly. “If there’s anything that I can do to make it up to you or… to make you happy, then tell me and I’ll do it. Regardless of what it is.”

Arthur had not expected that as a response, at all.

He stared up at Alfred for a few moments, looking at him blankly. “Are – are you sure…?” he looked away, down at his lap. He shifted anxiously for a moment or two, seeming to ponder the request. He let out a short sigh and returned his gaze to his lover, a small smile on his face.

“Then, let’s go to the bedroom.” Slowly, he stood up and held out his hand to Alfred.

‘Making love’ was something they’d rarely done. Most of the time, honestly, it had been fucking. Just sex. Making love had so many more connotations with it. It was as though Arthur would have to prove how much the other meant to him.

Alfred just nodded, knowing he really wanted this. It was something they never really did. Their sex was always rough and just for the sheer body pleasure but right now, he believed that they both needed this emotional reassurance. Not just him but Arthur as well.

Arthur stopped in front of him, not sitting on the bed and was suddenly extremely aware of the light from outside and how it illuminated everything. The gold of Alfred’s hair, his tan skin, the tear stains on his cheeks… and what’s more, he also knew that his own body was going to be on show. This was different from the few times they’d lazily rolled over in the morning to get a quick one in before the day started. There were no bedcovers to hide underneath.

He slowly reached down and caressed Alfred’s hair and his cheeks. He pressed a kiss to the man’s forehead and gestured for him to move back on the bed.

Alfred just scanned Arthur's body, noticing the lithe yet firm muscles underneath his clothes, the recently washed hair and skin and also some of his lover's own tear stains. He just smiled a bit at him, knowing that he was on show but at the same time, so was Arthur. They could do this...they would do this and love each other more than anything else.

Soon he scooted back on the bed, laying down as he stretched himself out for Arthur to see.

He was used to being covered by the sheets and even with so many clothes on, he felt so bare. He leant up so he could kiss Arthur.

Arthur found himself staring at Alfred as the man lay out before him. He looked good.

He carefully climbed on to the bed, trying not to let it shake much as he did. He came up to hover above Alfred, using his arms to support himself. Although his position quickly switched as Alfred leant up to kiss him. Arthur returned the kiss, pressing back. He gently sucked at Alfred’s bottom lip, kissing him deeply.

He hummed quietly against his lips, trying not to feel as nervous as he did.

His lips soon left Alfred’s as they began to trail down his jaw and then his neck. He held his weight with his legs as his hands drifted down Alfred’s sides.

Alfred let out a shuddered breath as he tilted his head a bit so he could kiss Arthur a bit deeper.

"Mm," He let out a soft sigh against Arthur's lips before reaching up to run his hand along the other's back, scooting up more so his head was laying back on the pillow instead. Soon he tilted his head back, feeling Arthur's lips on his jaw and then as it trailed down his neck. He leant into the touch, eager and wanting more. He just wanted to feel Arthur's warmth, his love and so much more about him.

It wasn't completely lust that spurred him on. No, it was a desire to feel Arthur's love that made him want this. It was painful how much he wanted this.

Arthur wasn’t about to rush this. They were both anxious and it felt as though there was so much lying on this. They wanted to prove to each other their affections, like a vow. Just without all of the glitz and glamour of wedding bells and expensive suits. Arthur wondered fleetingly if Alfred would look at him the same way one day when they were old and grey. Would Alfred’s pupils dilate, his pulse quicken just from the sight of Arthur?

All he could do was hope.

Slowly, Arthur began to migrate southwards down Alfred’s body, kissing languidly at the skin he revealed with every button he opened. He lingered around his collarbone, licking and sucking to leave marks there, for anyone who dared to look at Alfred’s bareness other than himself. He hoped Alfred would want to make marks on him too. Alfred's pulse always quickened and his pupils always dilated whenever he caught sight of Arthur. God, he was always so gorgeous and even when they became old and grey...he had a feeling that he would still feel the same. He knew that he would actually feel the same. God, he loved this man so much. There was just no denying it.

Though would they stay together that long? He just hoped that they would. Maybe he was thinking too far ahead for his own good.

Arthur felt his lips twitch upwards slightly at Alfred’s more-than-lovely reaction. He shifted his weight, pressing his palm flat against the man’s stomach and reached upwards. His lips met Alfred’s fleetingly.

“Truly, madly and deeply,” he concurred, breath ghosting over Alfred’s lips. He held Alfred’s gaze for a few moments, looking at the way his eyes sparkled; blue skies, sunshine, warmth, golden beaches, flaxen fields, beauty. Alfred radiated all of those things and so much more to Arthur. He never wanted to look at him any differently. He hoped that the day when they would hate to look upon each other would never come. He couldn’t imagine Alfred being scornful about him. It just didn’t seem to be physically possible.

His hands began to roam over Alfred’s body, feeling the rise and fall of his muscle and bone structure (which he already knew by heart despite Alfred’s occasional yo-yo weight). His skin was so smooth and soft beneath his touch. He could feel every mole, every birthmark, every freckle without even having to look. They’d done this a thousand times but this was different.

Speaking of freckles, being so close to his face, Arthur could see the light dusting of freckles on Alfred’s nose. His expression softened somewhat.

“You’re really,” he started but fell silent for a few moments before continuing, looking admirably at his face: “beautiful.”

Alfred always knew that Arthur was good with his words and just hearing talking to him so poetically and softly...it made his heart feel lighter. It made him feel like the luckiest man in the world despite their fight the night before.

He just hoped that their fights wouldn't get that bad again.

Something deep within him told that they would continue on having fights, but hopefully it would never result to such anger and frustration. And all he wanted right now was to be loved by Arthur and to love him just as much if not even more.

To feel the familiar touches on his skin was just wonderful, it made his heart race and his head light and all he could do was reach up and brush his fingers against his skin also. The Brit chuckled lowly against Alfred’s lips, having been pulled into the kiss. He carefully lowered his body to press down against his boyfriend’s. He continued to kiss him, glad to not feel under pressure to say anything romantic. Whilst he could say nice things every so often, it became contrived after a certain amount of time.

Arthur kissed Alfred’s smile and soon began to grin a little himself. It was only the two of them, hence why he convinced himself that it was alright to be a romantic fool. Two idiots in love.

He pushed his hips forwards in the process of arching his back upwards into Alfred’s touch. He knew that once upon a time, just the thought of Alfred touching him where scars lay beneath fabric would have made him shudder. But now he couldn’t have cared less. It was a part of him, just like Alfred’s ridiculously sensitive belly. Somehow.

He wasn’t quite as skinny as he had been when they got together, actually eating a lot more than he used to. He missed a lot of meals, but Alfred was always there to make sure that he at least ate something everyday. And Arthur was grateful for it (now that he’d noticed he was starting to build muscle and not fat which he thought he’d been getting).

Alfred was glad that Arthur was beginning to learn how to actually be more comfortable around him. That those scars barely seemed to matter anymore and that Arthur knew that it was just him. The man who could see past all of his problems and love him with all of his heart. Soon he reached beneath Arthur's shirt so he could feel Arthur's skin and scars and everything about him.

He loved Arthur. With all of his scars and smiles and everything else.

There was nothing they could do about his scars just like how they couldn't do anything about his ticklish stomach but it was just a part of them. And just like how Arthur grew to love his sensitive stomach, Alfred grew to love Arthur's scars. Not that they could really be compared.

As long as he could help Arthur grow to become healthier, both emotionally and physically, then that's all Alfred really wanted in the end.

Arthur sighed against Alfred’s mouth, eventually able to shrug out of his shirt (which he tossed away, for once not caring about where it landed). Unlike Alfred, who was in comfortable clothes, Arthur was still dressed in the clothes he had worn to work the previous day. He had zips and belt buckles to deal with. He gave the waistband of Alfred’s trousers a tug as he pulled his lips from Alfred’s in favour of kissing the moles and freckles on his shoulders.

Lord knew how the man constantly had such a lovely tan. Arthur’s own complexion was pallid and colourless in comparison. His skin was stark white, any of the tan he might have gotten whilst in Virginia had completely disappeared. Arthur was back to his usual pale-self which he assumed that Alfred probably liked else his gaze wouldn’t linger when Arthur got out of the shower and such.

He finally started to become more proactive as he reached down, groping Alfred through thin fabric. He made sure that he held the man’s gaze as he did so, a small smile still present on his lips. His fingertips trailed lightly across the man’s balls through his still-present clothes before squeezing carefully again.

Alfred’s hands on his body, the way that he felt the vertebrae of his spine and then where scars lay on his body, made Arthur shiver. He wanted to tense up and shuffle off but he managed to keep himself still as the other did so.

He did eventually pull away, however, to take off his trousers and socks, leaving him in his underwear. He pressed forward again soon, though and settled between Alfred’s legs. He felt incredibly bare, now only left in his boxers whilst Alfred was still more or less fully dressed.
