Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Sun Jan 06, 2013 2:16 pm

"Ahhh, finally done!" Alfred exclaimed, tilting his chair and stretching his arms out.

They had a busy day. The patients at his clinic were too many -- most of them first-time pregnant mothers who were eager to know the sex of their fetuses despite his clinic being a general one. He was living further away from the bright, distracting cities -- to be able to concentrate more in helping the ones who needed his help. He had already sent his assistants home, it was quite late and they needed to be with their families for dinner.

Keeping the patients' files in a cabinet, he tidied up the clinic. It wasn't much, just a general clinic with three beds and medical supplies. He did have a portable ultrasound though, one he possessed during his internship days. The reason why he had many pregnant clients.

He locked up the clinic and looked up to see the vast sky filled with bright twinkling stars. He really loved everything here in this little town. From the warm people who look up to him, to the quiet atmosphere of the evenings, it was honestly, what Alfred wanted.

The blue-eyed man always passed by the park during his walk home. The lamps gave the park a wonderful atmosphere that relaxed him even more. The park was always peaceful, like a still-life painting at night. And yet, something was quite different. Someone was lying on the bench. And to think it was cold outside.

He pulled his jacket tighter and curiously went up to the person. He didn't want anyone to catch a cold on a night like this. As he approached him, Alfred saw that it was a man, or someone a bit young-looking, who had, underneath the lamp light, blonde hair. He was wearing very thin clothes, and it didn't suit the doctor well.

"Hey," he nudged him, waking the man up.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Sun Jan 06, 2013 3:07 pm

In retrospect, Arthur should really have known better.

He'd certainly been out on the streets for long enough to know that it was best to stay away from public places, lest someone get curious or, worse, call the police. Not that loitering was against the law, specifically, though he'd learnt from experience they'd usually escort him out anyway, on the pretenses that he was disturbing the peace or some such nonsense. It was obvious to him what they really wanted — to sweep the grubby, bad-tempered homeless man under the rug like a piece of dirt, so that they could go back to pretending that their town was perfect and idyllic as a Christmas card while he drank himself to death in a dank alleyway somewhere.

But he was here, along with the rest of the town's relatively sparse but undeniably present homeless population, and more importantly, he'd been cold. The weather was hovering just on the edge of winter, crisp and chilled but not quite ready to commit just yet to the prospect of snow. He'd nearly frozen his arse off on that street corner, and, while the park hadn't been much better, the trees at least had blocked the bench he'd found from the majority of the wind. It had made, all in all, for a rather cozy spot; too cozy, evidently, as he'd fallen asleep without realizing and been rudely awoken by a stranger hours later.

He blinked a few times, squinting up with a groan. "What...?" A pair of rather astonishingly blue eyes blurred into focus, peering at him from beneath a pair of glasses. He cursed at another poke to the ribs, swatting the offending hand and sitting up. "Don't touch me! What kind of twat goes around randomly poking strangers?"

Arthur stuck his freezing hands in the pockets of his threadbare jacket and glared with all of the venom he could muster at the stranger, hoping he'd be intimidated into leaving him alone. "Go bother some other unlucky sod." He stifled a cough; that blasted hacking had crept up on him and only grown steadily worse for a few days now. His immune system would get rid of whatever he'd caught soon enough. Or perhaps it wouldn't, and he'd die in a corner somewhere. He couldn't help but think the townspeople would be more than happy to be rid of him.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Sun Jan 06, 2013 6:14 pm

The general practitioner narrow his eyes.

It had always been his nature to help. During childhood years, he was scolded so many times by his parents for taking in too many stray animals home. Alfred reasoned out to them that if he didn't, they would die from starvation or from illness they might contract, and his puppy eyes would look at his parents with so much hope and compassion that they couldn't say no in the end. He then forced his twin brother to play nurse as he assume the role of the 'doctor' and tended their wounds.

His desire of treating hurt animals had evolved to treating hurt people -- during his high school years, he always had an endless supply of band-aids and OTC pain medications. It was very unlikely of him, his friends would agree, but then they didn't know the real Alfred F. Jones who took care of hurt animals during his childhood. He was always the teen who carried the hurt classmate in gym class to the clinic, and his classmates began to see Alfred's compassion and the need to help others.

That need was itching again.

Alfred had a good look of the man now. He was not a doctor for nothing, after all. The man was clearly skinnier than he should be, his cheekbones very prominent; unshaven - though he had just these short little hairs poking on his chin; his jacket had been thinner than he first assumed, he took a look at the man's chest (clearly disappointed by the lack of scarf) and Alfred agreed that he man needed a new set of clothes and shoes -- ASAP! And finally, he looked back at the man's face and saw a pair of emerald eyes that shouldn't have a spark to it, but really did. And oh, those massive eyebrows too.

His hand immediately cupped his mouth to prevent himself from laughing -- those were seriously huge eyebrows -- and composed himself again. The man had a bit of a fiery temper, it seemed, judging from the way he snapped at Alfred for waking him up. He was about to get annoyed despite his itching need but then he heard the man stifle a cough, a pitiful cough nonetheless that hacked his tiny frame, and it caused the need to creep up at him and overtook his brain before he even got the time to think it properly.

"Go home with me," he declared, obviously not accepting any other answer aside from yes. He clearly ignored the angry accented words sprouting from the shabby man's mouth. Alfred could get to know him later.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Mon Jan 07, 2013 2:16 pm

Arthur unconsciously bristled, not at all liking the appraising look in the stranger's eyes. "Are you even listening to me? Go away! Find another bench to stare at like a — like —"

When had his head gotten so hot? Funny, he could have sworn it was cold out.... He had a pounding headache as well, which made it extremely hard to think straight, and his chest was hurting something fierce. He wished the stupid stranger would just go take his blasted blue eyes and and frankly unnecessary attractiveness somewhere else.

Fuck, now he was shivering. When had all this started? He'd remembered feeling rather weak when he'd passed out on the bench, but he'd attributed that to lack of food combined with cold and the cough as simply something he'd caught that would go away on its own. Pneumonia, his brain offered up hazily, as he tried to focus on the stranger again after noticing he was moving.

It took a moment or two for the request (no, more like an order) to sink in, at which point Arthur bolted up with his best glare and immediately regretted it. Trying to stay steady on his feet (how on earth had things gotten so bad without him noticing?), he scowled and took a few steps back, ready to bolt. "You've got entirely the wrong idea if you think that just because I'm out on a bench I'll whore myself out for cash. I'm not that desperate, thank you, and if this is some sort of, of well-meaning charity bullshit, well, you can take your charity and shove it up — up your —"

Dizzy... he was very, very dizzy, he noted fuzzily. The pain and the heat in his head were getting steadily worse, and he doubled over with another hacking cough, losing his train of thought entirely. "So just — just bugger off," he continued vaguely, "to your middle-class home and your... white picket fence and.... Might be a beggar but I'm not begging for anything, so... just go away." He waved a hand somewhere in the direction of what he thought might be the residential area of town, though his hand felt like a limp noodle and it was extraordinarily difficult to think past all of this haziness — or to see, for that matter, as the world seemed to have spontaneously decided that now would be a good time to blur together and go all... all melty like that painting with the clocks.

His legs promptly decided they'd rather not hold him up anymore, depositing him rather suddenly on the walkway. He mumbled something about clocks and leaned back against the bench, noting in a far-off, dreamy way that the stranger seemed rather distressed by this. "Go 'way," he mumbled, his eyelids feeling heavy. "'M fine...."

Darkness at the edges of his vision was slowly closing in, like a tunnel — now that was odd. He thought about getting up, but his limbs didn't quite seem to be working anymore, and his eyes were so, so heavy... perhaps he could just... let them close, yes, just for a bit.... Obligingly, Arthur closed his eyes, and proceeded to promptly pass out in the dirt and sprawl limply against the bench.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Mon Jan 07, 2013 7:41 pm

What the? Now he's being accused of wanting to buy this man off? As a whore? He didn't even swing that way. Alfred was very offended of what this man was sprouting. It didn't make any sense at all! He was fuming, feeling his pride and his altruism insulted by the man he really wanted to help, and a small part of him had the urge to give up his good-boy deeds and just go home.

And yet, he couldn't.

Especially now that this shabby blonde guy's gone all red in the face, and it was not just plain blushing -- it looked like he would be releasing steam in no time -- despite the man's dirty face. Well, not really dirty, but not really clean? He could see some smudges around the blonde's too hollow cheeks and chin. Alfred felt his fingers tingle, wanting to wipe the man's face free of grime.

His clinical eye saw the slight shivering on the man's body, and he really didn't want to linger outside in the cold anymore. He badly needed the man inside a warm house and tend to him. He couldn't help it. This homeless dude was even swaying on his feet! That was not a good sign at all.

Alfred tried to grab the man's arm to keep him still. "Hey, it's not good for you to be up and walking!" he exclaimed, his worry skyrocketing as his fingers missed the targeted arm. "And I have no intention of buying you! I don't even swing that way!" he followed up, his cheeks heating up. The environment's getting really colder, he reasoned to himself. He wasn't sure why he defended himself, he just felt that it was the best thing to say.

The doctor's heart broke upon seeing the blonde guy hacking cough after cough, his shoulders shaking, his unstable body bent forward, and whatever hesitation crossed his mind before had been erased -- that man was going home with him, whether he liked it or not. He heard him muttering about white fences and middle-class houses... oh. Was he talking about the American Dream? Did he long for that kind of house? Alfred briefly pondered, before he was shocked from his reverie when the angry homeless guy's knees gave way and he collapsed on the ground.

Alfred immediately ran towards the guy, shouting, "Hey!" His physician persona replaced his typical self, and he knelt beside the man and tapped his shoulder three times, hard. "Hey, hey, hey! Are you okay?" Strong hands shook one shoulder, but the man did not rouse from his unconscious state.

"Damn it," Alfred cursed, not liking how it ended up this way. Good thing he actually bothered to check on the man before, if not, he might have died tonight, with how cold the environment was, how thin his clothes were, and how the man was really burning up when he felt his forehead.

Not minding that the man's clothes might dirty his own, Alfred carefully placed one arm around the blonde's back, while the other hooked under the thin legs, and lifted the unconscious guy up. The doctor frowned, his brows furrowing in honest concern for how light the body was for the man's apparent size. He gave a long sigh and walked home.

At least he had the man in a safe place.

---

After a full bed bath, hair shampoo (making sure his guest wouldn't aspirate the water), change of clothes, and a warmer bed for the angry guy, Alfred felt accomplished. It had been a long while since he'd actually taken care of someone like this. Being a doctor in a clinic, he could only give diagnoses and prescriptions, but to actually touch with his patients to convey the care and love? His internship days seemed so long already.

Alfred smiled at his sleeping patient. He carefully tucked the comforter to keep him warm, aside from central heater of his house. Once he woke up, Alfred would be giving him medications for his Pneumonia, and some chest physiotherapy to remove the phlegm stuck on his air passage. He hoped this time his patient wouldn't be that resistant.

His head was full of warm and pleasant thoughts he didn't realize he had already fallen asleep beside the bed.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Wed Jan 16, 2013 2:15 pm

Arthur slipped in and out of fitful sleep that night, half-delirious with fever when he did wake. At his most lucid, he felt the sweat-soaked sheets of the bed beneath him and thought woozily that he must be back at home. Have to get some sleep.... Not feeling well, an' Mum won't like it if'm sick.... He turned over and was soon sound asleep again, this time not waking up until well into the next day.

The man blinked blearily, opening his eyes with a groan. My head... ugh.... Hangover...? Don't remember any booze, but last night's fuzzy.... He blinked and froze in place as his vision focused on the ceiling — ceiling?! Not only a ceiling, but a ceiling he didn't recognize at all! He let out a litany of curses and scrambled out of the bed, only to crash loudly to the floor, his head pounding and his entire body feeling weak and useless. Even with the adrenaline pumping through his veins, attempting to stand up seemed like a Herculean task, especially with his head buzzing the way it was. Too hot... can't think.... And yet he was cold as well, uncontrollable chills shuddering through his spine and preventing him from doing anything but lying there for a moment, taking in short, laboured breaths. Can't stay here... was I drugged...? Have to get out....

Gritting his teeth, Arthur forced himself sluggishly onto his feet, gripping the wall for support, and stumbled towards the door, so caught up in trying to escape as he fumbled with the handle that he entirely failed to notice the man on the chair beside the bed he'd been lying in.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Wed Jan 16, 2013 7:51 pm

Blue eyes snapped wide open upon hearing the crash on the other side of the bed. Thoughts went directly to his new guest, and yet still sleep-addled, his brain was feeding him with scenarios where the green-eyed man hitting his head on the floor, or he was having the seizure and fell of the bed, and he was berating himself - despite his sleepy state - on why he didn't but any side rails up, only to realize that his bed didn't have any side rails at all.

Alfred blinked his eyes, trying to clear the sleep fogging his brain, and saw that the man he was taking care of was slowly inching away from the bed, and was struggling to move towards the door - and seeing how weak and pitiful the blond looked, and it sparked another wave of tingling overprotective sensations all over his body. The doctor stood up from his seat, and purposefully walked to the staggering man on his wall, reached out his arm and took hold of his shoulder, pulling the stranger to face him. His other hand landed on the opposite arm, ready to support him in case the man would collapse again.

"What the heck are you thinking, getting up in your condition? You should've stayed in bed, doctor's order!" he chastised him, his voice laced with worry. He didn't want to see green eyes rolling back on his head and fainting.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Sat Jan 19, 2013 5:21 pm

Arthur very nearly collapsed when a strong arm pulled him around, having been putting all of his energy into staying upright and maintaining forward movement. He tried to yank his arm away, to absolutely no avail, and settled for scowling vaguely up at the man in front of him, who looked vaguely familiar — wait, the stranger in the park! "What — what kind of sick joke is this? Did you kidnap me? Drug me?"

Oh, God, he just wanted to get out of there and sleep — something, anything to make his head stop pounding and his chest stop hurting and the room to stop swimming around him. "Doctor? You're not a — I don't —" He doubled over in another fit of coughing that nearly knocked him to the ground with the force of it, his voice hoarse when it was finally over. "Don't need a doctor... can't afford one anyway...."

Oh — oh, yes, there was a man in front of him, right... it was so difficult to think... not to mention that the man looked rather blurry. "Let me go," he said weakly, pulling at his arm again.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Sat Jan 19, 2013 9:15 pm

"Hey, I don't do those kinds of stuff - illegal drugging of people, of course," he replied, not really annoyed because well, he did practically took the man home from the park. Would that warrant as kidnapping? But then he just wanted to make sure the man was safe! Alfred had to pout.

"My services are free, just for you!" he heroically announced, and since the man was so insistent to get away from him, he pulled the very warm body against his, wrapping an arm around the shorter blond's back, and flexed his knees a bit, hooking his other arm below the man's knees. Viola! Problem solved! Now the man wouldn't escape and he could place him back to bed.

"I swear, I'm not kidnapping you nor drugging you, Mister, but you're very sick and you need medications." He gently put the man down on the soft sheets and grabbed the medicine cup and the tumbler of water he kept on the bedside table - the right medicines for his Pneumonia, fever, and body pain.

"Here, please drink it. Trust me," he said.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Sun Jan 20, 2013 1:58 pm

Arthur's protest came out as an undignified squeak as the man lifted him up (was this some sort of fever dream? People didn't do things like that in real life!) and carried him over to the bed without so much as straining. He struggled weakly, letting out a few obscenities that quickly died down as he tired himself out.

This was definitely a dream... what kind of doctor took in men off the street and treated them for free? He stared suspiciously at the fuzzy-looking cup in front of him. "What's that?" he asked, speech slightly slurred.

He was half-asleep again by this point, so he nodded after a moment and took the medicine, grimacing. "Tastes like piss...." Everything was getting hot and blurry and odd again, so he turned over and closed his eyes. "Goin' back t'sleep... oddest dream've ever had...."

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Sun Jan 20, 2013 11:27 pm

He watched the man drifting back to dreamland, an unconscious smile gracing his lips. How... weirdly adorable. It must be the fever making the man on his bed talk so funnily, but since he's here to take care of his blond guest, he's confident that he's in good hands.

Alfred stood up and stretched, taking the now half-empty tumbler to the kitchen and refilling it with water. He took his whole medicine tray - yeah, he had stocks of medicine in his house, in cases like these - and took the tablets and capsules the man needed. Placing them on the medicine cup, he walked back inside his room, putting the containers on the bedside table.

What would he do now? It was around midnight, pretty late, and he still had work tomorrow. Should he take a time off? His staff could take care of his clinic while he's gone. It's just for a day, anyway. He sent a text to his trusted secretary - a bubbly blonde girl named Bella - to contact him if there's an emergency tomorrow because he had an important matter to attend.

He looked back at the very sick man and nodded. Yeah, a very important matter.

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Mon May 27, 2013 9:54 am

Arthur's head was clearer when he finally awoke the next day, and kept his eyes closed for a moment, immediately sensing that something was off. His body hurt all over, especially his chest and throat, and he felt as though all the energy had been sucked out of him — but more importantly, he felt clean, cleaner than he had in a very long time, and the surface he was lying on felt far too comfortable and bedlike to be anything but suspicious. Blurred, half-formed memories of the night before returned: something about a park bench, and a man, and an unfamiliar room.... Arthur opened his eyes, willing himself to stay calm when the sight of the four walls around him only confirmed his suspicions.

He could vaguely recall something about being propositioned for sex — had he been kidnapped, then? It seemed likely, especially when he glanced next to him and saw the drugs laid out on the dresser. That would also explain the state of his body, and why he'd slept for so long, if the bright sunlight streaming in through a crack in the curtains covering the left wall's window. A window! How stupid of his kidnapper (or kidnappers?) to leave him here; he could break the window and escape easily.

Or so he thought; Arthur tried his hardest to rise from the bed, but every attempt had him flopping down again, limp as a ragdoll. Or, perhaps, not so stupid as I'd thought. It was the drugs, of course, keeping him here and effectively helpless until whoever had trapped him here saw fit to come in and have their way with him. Arthur's face hardened, and he clenched his fists underneath the sheets (which were rather surprisingly clean — his captor was apparently well-off). If they thought he was going to take this lying down (er... not literally), they were in for a surprise, especially if they made the mistake of exposing any sensitive parts of their anatomy.

Speaking of which.... Arthur glanced down and was dully unsurprised to note that he was no longer in the clothes he'd been wearing the night before. He was under little illusion as to what that more than likely meant, though he found himself numbly accepting the fact that it had happened and shoving aside any emotional response he might have had. He could deal with the fallout later; he only hoped he wasn't going to get some sort of disease from this. (Then again, perhaps he'd already gotten one, somehow. It was hard to know.)

With some difficulty, Arthur turned his head and spotted the man he dimly recognized from the night before; his body tensed at the sight. "What do you want from me?" he spat, or tried to; every word scratched his throat and took a Herculean effort to actually make audible, resulting in his venomous tone being entirely lost in the ensuing rasp. "If you've done what you kidnapped me for, let me go. If not, I won't make it easy for you."

((I finally reply almost half a year later OTL I am so sorry, Phinny, I have no excuse for this x_x))

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Alpha Jones, MD Thu May 30, 2013 11:46 am

Alfred was dozing off on his spot by the wall -- he had been up until three in the morning looking after (at) the stranger he just brought home. He often changed the washcloth he placed on the hot forehead, hoping that the man's fever would break in the morning. But considering the infection his respiratory tract, and maybe even his lungs, it wouldn't be an easy recovery. If he would resist the medications and bed rest.

He awoke when a groaning sound was heard. He looked up to see the man awake and trying to get up from bed. He immediately stood up to tell him to stop moving around, but then the man turned to him and glared. He heard the sick man accuse him of kidnapping, his words full of spite and hatred and Alfred was confused for a moment. Why would he be angry when he was treating his infection?

He frowned, and walked closer to the bed, and saw the man tensing even more in bed.

Then it hit him.

He recalled last night's incident of misunderstandings -- the accusations of prostitution, his denial for such thing, their silly argument about staying in bed and drinking the medicine -- and his eyes widened and suddenly he felt sheepish. Only a bit, though.

Oh.

Bearing the angry stare coming from his reluctant patient, he bashfully smiled at him and said, "I'm sorry for making you think negatively of what happened to you last night. I might as well introduce myself: I'm Dr. Alfred F. Jones, the general practitioner of the local clinic." He flashed him his license identification card, the one he always kept in his wallet.

"I'm sorry for taking you home against your will, but you actually collapsed in the streets last night, and I can't just leave you sick, unconscious, and alone." He looked at those brilliant green eyes, hoping that he'd calm down enough to think rationally about it. "I want to treat you until there's no trace of infection left in your body. I promise you I'm no kidnapper, no sex offender, and I'm not a man who hires prostitutes." He raised his hands in surrender, and added, "You'll be well taken care of, I promise."

Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka] Empty Re: Right Before Your Eyes [Phinny/Taka]

Post by Naga Arthur Fri May 31, 2013 6:21 am

Arthur tensed instinctively when the man approached, though he tried to cover it with a fierce, defiant glare. He was going down fighting, damn it, and he'd make this creep regret any contact his filthy paws made with Arthur's skin. Arthur braced himself, expecting the stranger to come closer and, well, do the deed, or at least attempt it.

What he didn't expect, however, was for the other man to stop with a look of seemingly genuine confusion that morphed into horrified realization and then... sheepishness? Arthur refused to let down his guard, however — surely it was some kind of trick.

Further shocking Arthur, the man introduced himself as 'Dr. Alfred F. Jones' and pulled out a rather official-looking card, telling him that, of all things, he'd been brought in off the street for medical treatment. Arthur almost wanted to laugh at the absurdity of such a claim, but somehow or other, he couldn't bring himself to disbelieve the strang — Dr. Jones. There was something about the man that practically radiated sincerity; Arthur wondered for a moment whether the brain behind those too-blue eyes was made up of sunshine and rainbows, then dismissed the notion as a product of his still-feverish head.

"Tch," he muttered under his breath, cautiously relaxing. "It would have been better if you'd left me there." He could have dealt with this on his own, surely, and now he was going to have to figure out a way to pay this man for poking his nose into Arthur's affairs. He looks young... probably saw me and took me in, thinking he was 'doing a good deed' or some such Boy Scout nonsense. He'll no doubt feel good about himself for days on end for this, especially when I'm out of his life and on the streets again.

Still, he wasn't going to be a charity case, not that he honestly expected that this man wasn't looking for any sort of payment for his services (what sort of idiot actually did things like that? Knights in shining armour didn't exist in the real world, and anyone who thought they could were deluded fools). Arthur glanced away, stifling a hacking cough to the best of his ability. "... I see," he said stiffly but more audibly, though speaking at that volume still hurt his raw throat. "I hope you understand that it may take me some time to procure your fee, but I'll do so as soon as possible." If I ever manage to find a job....

He wasn't going to thank this man, not now or ever. Arthur wasn't dependent on anyone, not anymore, and he resented Dr. Jones for making him be so against his will. He'd have found a way to fight through his illness, and if not, well, perhaps he would have died. He would have gone down fighting, but death was a better alternative than being indebted to someone and relying on them entirely. Arthur had learnt that lesson the hard way, but it wasn't one he was likely to forget any time soon.
